JOHN BRAMBLITT ART EXHIBIT

August 5, 2010 through October 15, 2010

John Bramblitt is an artist living in Denton Texas, his art has been sold in over twenty countries and he has appeared internationally inprint, TV and radio. His work has received much recognition including the ‘Most Inspirational Video of 2008′ from You Tube and three Presidential Service Awards for his innovative art workshops.

While art was always a major part of John's life it was not until he lost his sight in 2001 that he began to paint, and it was then that he says, "Art reshaped my life." John's paintings are intensely personal, and are mostly taken from real people and events in his life. John's workshops are unique in the art world in that they not only span the gap between beginning and professional artists, but also include adaptive techniques for people with disabilities. According to John, "Everyone has an artist somewhere in them; sometimes they just need a little help letting it out."

The Uptown Theater story...

  • Past:
    • The Uptown Theater originally opened in 1950 as a movie theater with 1100 seats and a small stage for live performances.

      • The theater featured sloped floor for optimal viewing, a “cry room,” spring-loaded seating, limited oversized seats
      • Opened as an un-segregated house, years before other area theaters
      • Screened movies for the whole family as well as Saturday morning kiddie shows
      • Minstrel shows, stage shows, midnight shows
      • In 1950 adult tickets were 35 cents, child tickets were 12 cents
      • Pickle juice snow cones were a favorite treat

  • Present:
    • The Uptown Theater is the pride and joy of downtown Grand Prairie, a true multi-use facility for the community and its visitors to enjoy
      • The City of Grand Prairie presents a presenting series of regional and national touring acts including live music, dance and theatrical performances
      • The Uptown serves as the home for the productions of Grand Prairie Arts Council
      • An expanded stage and the addition of an orchestra pit allows for a greater variety of performances
      • Gallery space in the expanded lobby creates opportunity to exhibit visual arts
